Think about a seed for a moment. A seed needs both rain and sunlight to grow. You and I are seeds, and when we stay in the light, when we walk with the light of the world, who is a person, we’re going to grow every single time. and God is going to use every single raindrop that falls on us.
We’re going to see what the Bible has to say about light, so let’s go back to the beginning, shall we? Let’s go to Genesis!

Think about a seed for a moment. A seed needs both rain and sunlight to grow. You and I are seeds, and when we stay in the light, when we walk with the light of the world, who is a person, we’re going to grow every single time. and God is going to use every single raindrop that falls on us. Hi, I’m Erica welcoming you to the Bible for busy people. I am so excited because today you and I begin an illuminating journey. We’re going to see what the Bible has to say about light, so let’s go back to the beginning, shall we? Let’s go to Genesis, the very first book in the Bible, chapter one, beginning in verse one. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters and the spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
When I read those words, I think about an artist lovingly hovering over their canvas, dreaming of the colors they’re going to swirl together to create something beautiful. Picking it up now again in verse three, then God said, let there be light, and there was light, and God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day and the darkness night. and evening passed and morning came marking the first day. God still speaks those words in our lives today into the darkness. He says, let there be light into our confusion. He says, let there be light. He shines himself into the places and into the circumstances. You and I don’t understand. And all of a sudden, even though we may not have an answer as to why it’s happening, we know we’re not alone. We know that there is light in the darkness.
He is the light. Jesus is the light of the world. Not only is he the light maker, but he is the actual light. You want to explore a little bit more with me? Let’s head on over to John chapter one in the New Testament. Now we’re going to pick it up in verse one. In the beginning, the word already existed. The word was with God and the word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him and nothing was created except through him. The word gave life to everything that was created life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it.
What a promise. God sent a man John the Baptist to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony, John himself was not the light. He was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people and even they rejected him. but to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn, not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness, and we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only son.
We find out two beautifully important things here. We find out that Jesus is the light, the true light who gives light to everyone. He came and he is still with us. He is with you in that hard thing right now, shining his love into your life, and we find out that Jesus is the word. The word became human. Jesus is the light. Jesus is the word. Now, it’s interesting, because if you flip with me to the middle of your Bible and you look at one verse, Psalm 119 verse 105, I believe it’s the longest Psalm there in the middle of your Bible, it says, your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. We see the two beautifully important things coming together. How do you and I walk in the light as the Bible instructs us to do? What I would like to say, I believe that it’s when you and I keep in the light, when we stay close to the light of the world, he will guide us to the people he wants to meet. He will guide us to the places he wants us to go. He will illuminate the path before us. Do you realize that you are walking in the light right now, by studying God’s word today? Isn’t that amazing? Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. you have switched on the lamp Today. you are walking in his light. All right, next time we’re going to talk more about walking in the light and how Jesus is not only the light, but he calls us to be the light for others. So, until next time, remember, you are loved.
