Joy Bombs in the Psalms! | Psalm 139:1-18, Luke 12:7, Psalm 147:4, Isaiah 49:16

Let me say it for the back row, You are loved. I hope that those three words have gone down deep into your heart this week because it’s true. You are right there with God all of the time. You are always on His mind. Matthew West has a song out that is so beautiful, and I believe the perfect way for you and I to wrap up Love week. It’s called, “Me on Your Mind.” Soak up the words and remember that when Jesus was on the cross, you were on his mind. Jesus told some really great love stories on the podcast this week, but you know what? The greatest love story of all time is that Jesus who never sinned, not once in his life, gave his life for me and for you because he wanted to give us peace here on this earth and to give us eternal life.

Let me say it for the back row, You are loved. I hope that those three words have gone down deep into your heart this week because it’s true. You’re really loved. Welcome to the Bible for Busy People. I’m Erica, and every Friday we do joy bombs in the Psalms, so I’m so glad you’re here because I want to pour a little bit more love into your heart before Valentine’s week is over. And we’re going to begin today in Psalm 1 39, right there in the middle of your Bible, and before we even read verse one, I want you to think of a hand knit or handmade gift that you’ve received from somebody who cares about you. My dear friend Mary Lou, makes the most beautiful scarves. I believe I have two that she’s made me over the years and they’re extra precious to me because I know that she put love in every stitch. I want you to think about that because we are about to read that God knitted you together. That’s how special you are. He made you with a good and specific purpose to carry out in this world. He made you to be a gift for others. You are the work of his hands. So here we go. Psalm 139 beginning in verse one.

Oh Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up, you know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home, you know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it. Lord, you go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Please just receive that right now. I want to pause for a moment. Just imagine Jesus just placing his hand of blessing on your head’s. Take a moment and feel that. tTaking a deep breath with you. All right, picking it back up in verse six.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand. I can never escape from your spirit. I can never get away from your presence. If I go up to heaven, you are there. If I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night. But even in darkness, I cannot hide from you. To you, the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

Isn’t that mysterious and cool? Here comes the best part now.

You made all the delicate inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Your workmanship is marvelous. How well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, Oh God? They cannot be numbered. I can’t even count them. They outnumber the grains of sand, and when I wake up, you are still with me.

You can tell that King David who wrote that Psalm understood how loved he was. God loves you that way. Something interesting about the Lord is that he’s a counter and I believe this is just one of the billions of ways that he shows his love. In Luke chapter 12, verse seven, Jesus says,

…and the very hairs on your head are all numbered.

That is so tender and sweet. He counts the hairs on your head because you are that valuable. We learn in Psalm 147 verse four, it says,

He counts the stars and calls them all by name.

I don’t think we have an actual number of how many trillions of stars there are in our universe, which makes it all the more awesome that God knows all of their names. And he knows your name. In Isaiah 49 verse 16, the Lord says,

See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.

That is huge. You are right there with God all of the time. You are always on his mind. There’s a song I want to invite you to listen to this weekend. Maybe you could Google it. Matthew West is one of my favorite authors, and he has a song out that is so beautiful, and I believe the perfect way for you and I to wrap up Love week, it’s called me on your mind. Listen to it. Soak up the words and remember that when Jesus was on the cross, you were on his mind. Jesus told some really great love stories on the podcast this week, but you know what? The greatest love story of all time is that Jesus who never sinned, not once in his life, gave his life for me and for you because he wanted to give us peace here on this earth and to give us eternal life.

And the way you accept his free gift and become a part of the greatest love story of all time is by saying, yes. Jesus, I accept your free gift. I’m sorry for the sins that I’ve committed in my life and I want to make it right. I repent. I turn away from the bad things I’ve done and I invite you into my heart and into my life. And Jesus will come into your heart and come into your life and he’ll change you slowly. He loves you just as you are, but he will work on your heart and you’ll be glad that he did. God is love. I hope that you feel just a little bit more loved here at the end of this week because you really are.
