Gardening really is like life, isn’t it? You need a little sunshine, a little rain, a whole lot of hard work too, right? Welcome to the Bible for Busy People. It is Friday, which means it’s time for joy bombs in the Psalms. This is the Gardening With God edition. So, join me in Psalm 92. This was actually written for the Sabbath, written for the day of rest. So, here we go, beginning in verse one.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.
2 It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening,
By the way, don’t you like that book ending the day, okay. We’re going to proclaim his unfailing love in the morning, and his faithfulness in the evening. That’s something that you and I can do every day at night. Okay? Verse three,
3accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp,
and the melody of a lyre.4 You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!
I sing for joy because of what you have done.
5 O Lord, what great works you do!
And how deep are your thoughts.
6 Only a simpleton would not know,
and only a fool would not understand this:
7 Though the wicked sprout like weeds
and evildoers flourish,
they will be destroyed forever.
8 But you, O Lord, will be exalted forever.
9 Your enemies, Lord, will surely perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
10 But you have made me as strong as a wild ox.
You have anointed me with the finest oil.
11 My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
my ears have heard the defeat of my wicked opponents.
12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
15 They will declare, “The Lord is just!
He is my rock!
There is no evil in him!”
You know, there’s something about that verse 14 that I really like. Even in old age, they will still produce fruit. Isn’t that wonderful? Maybe you’re listening today and you’re a great-grandmother. You are still able to produce fruit when you’re connected to the vine, to our Lord Jesus, and that is just wonderful. I want to wrap up our week together, our time spent gardening with God, with the words of the hymn written by Charles A. Miles. I want to end our week together and just recognize the fact that we have a Savior who wants to walk with us and talk with us and help us every day. Here we go. This is, In The Garden:
I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses
And he walks with me
And he talks with me
And he tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
We began our week together in the Garden of Eden. Remember when Adam and Eve would walk together with God in the cool of the day before the sin came between them? Jesus came to take away our sins, to pay for the sins of Adam and Eve and yours and mine, and now it means that you and I can walk with God again. Maybe not in the Garden of Eden, but in the gardens of our lives. He wants to walk with you. He’s there for you. All you need to do is reach out for his hand. Oh, it’s so good to be with you.
