Are you ready for another angelic encounter? Me too. Hi, I’m Erica and this is the Bible for Busy People. Thank you for making time to join me in God’s Word today. It’s wonderful, isn’t it, to get to know the angels of Christmas and to imagine what it would be like to be in the presence of one of God’s messengers?

You and I might have even experienced this and just not know it. The Bible says, be careful who you entertain for some have entertained angels without knowing it. Isn’t that cool to think about?

Today an angel is gonna be paying a visit to Joseph. The man, God called to raise his own son. So, let’s meet up with Joseph in Matthew chapter one, beginning in verse 18.

This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph, but before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.

As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David, the angel said, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife for the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and she will have a son and you are to name him Jesus, for He will save his people from their sins.

All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet. Look, the virgin will conceive a child. She will give birth to a son, and they will call him, Emanuel, which means God is with us. That’s good news. God is with us. When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded, and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born, and Joseph named him Jesus.

Wow, that really happened. You know, before the angel came, I gotta believe Joseph’s heart was broken. His dreams were crushed and shattered. I’m sure that as he built the house for Mary, he was imagining what their life together would be like. Perhaps he even heard the laughter of children in his heart as he worked.

Then he found out she’s pregnant, and it was as if someone threw water all over the beautiful pictures he painted in his mind. Joseph was a good man. He was so deeply hurt, but he was also deeply determined to let Mary go to release her without shame. But then the surprise, right? The angel shows up with new paint and a fresh canvas.

Don’t be afraid to take her as your wife and suddenly, the new dream is more beautiful and more wonderful than any of the pictures Joseph had painted himself. He trusted the Lord and he embraced this extraordinary plan God had for him and for Mary. God has a good plan for your life too. If your dreams have been crushed and shattered, trust him. God has a future and a hope for you, and it’s gonna be more beautiful than you could ever imagine. Alright, until next time, you are loved.
