Hi, I’m Erica, and I’m so glad you’re here for the Bible for Busy People. This is where you and I just pause the day and say, Lord, we’re giving you these next few minutes. We always study the Bible in seven minutes or less, it’s a chance for us to regroup, to take Jesus up on his invitation where he says, Come to me and I will give you rest. Oh Lord, we are coming to you today. We’re a little tired in body and spirit, and we give you these next few minutes in Jesus’ name.

We’re gonna be diving back into the Book of Mark today, chapter five. And we are going to read an incredible story together. I call this one, “Little Girl, Get Up!” It’s one of my favorites, so it always gives me the good chills. So here we are, Mark chapter five, beginning in verse 21. Remember, as we read together, things are not always what they seem. Verse 21. “Jesus got into the boat again and went back to the other side of the lake, where a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. Then a leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet pleading fervently with him. ‘My little daughter is dying,’ he said. ‘Please come and lay your hands on her; heal her so she can live.'” He’s pleading with the Lord. “Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him. A woman in the crowd had suffered for 12 years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.’ Immediately. Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my robe?’ His disciple said to him, ‘Look at this crowd pressing against you. How can you ask who touched me?’ But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. Then the frightened woman trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. And he said to her,” I believe he reached his arm out, I can just picture it. “‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.’

“While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue.” The one who moments before had been pleading with Jesus to heal his daughter. “They told him, ‘Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the teacher now.’ But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.'” Do you need to hear those words today? Don’t be afraid, just have faith. I do. Wow. “Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James and John, the brother of James. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. He went inside and asked, ‘Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead, she’s only asleep.'” Oh, I have the good chills. I told you that was gonna happen. This is a sleep story from the Bible cuz that little girl is not gonna stay dead. She never was, according to Jesus. “The crowd laughed at him, but he made them all leave and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand,” Isn’t this beautiful, can you see it? “He said to her, ‘Talitha koum,’ which means, ‘little girl, get up!’ And the girl, who was 12 years old, immediately stood up and walked around!” Our takeaway verse. “They were overwhelmed and totally amazed. Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone what had happened, and then he told them to give her something to eat.”

Jesus gave Jairus and his family their little girl. 12 years old, they thought she was gone and Jesus was like, She’s only sleeping. Things are not always what they seem. In your life, things may look bleak. Please know that Jesus sees them differently. He sees your circumstances through his eyes, and not only that, but he’s working in the lives of other people around you. The woman with the issue of blood stopped Jesus, but it didn’t take away from Jairus’s miracle. So take that into your day. Jesus can work miracles in the lives of others around you, and your case is still front and center on his desk. There is enough of Jesus to go around for all of us, so get ‘good overwhelmed’ today, get totally amazed remembering that Jesus can do. That little girl was only sleeping. Praise God. Thank you for the good chills. Until next time, remember, you are loved.
