Joy Bombs in the Psalms | Psalm 62, Psalm 91, Deuteronomy 33:27

I’m not really a fan of poetry, but I love this one poem from Emily Dickinson. Hope is the thing with feathers that purchase in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all. And I know that is not the textbook definition of what hope is, but I believe that’s what walking out hope looks like. Sometimes you have to sing the tune without the words, and never stop. Keep hoping. Keep trusting in the Lord. He is the God of hope.

Another way to walk out hope is to wait quietly. Sometimes it feels so good to just be still and know that he is God. Here’s our Joy Bomb in the Psalms for this week!

Hi, I’m Erica. This is the Bible for Busy People, and it is time for joy bombs in the Psalms. It’s how we wrap up our week together. And today you and I are gonna meet in Psalm 62, right there in the middle of your Bible.

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him.

Another way to walk out hope is to wait quietly. Sometimes it feels so good to just be still and know that he is God. Matter of fact let’s take a hot second right here. Lord, we’re choosing to be still, and to just remember that you are God. We’re just gonna take a few moments of silence and even just hold out our hands. And just even symbolically, give him our hopes right now.

Lord, we just sit in your presence. We’re letting your peace flood our hearts. We’re letting your hope fill our souls. We hold out our hopes to you knowing that they are precious and safe in your hands. We give you these moments. Thank you for your love, Lord Jesus. Amen. All right. We continue in Psalm 62.

He alone is my rock and my salvation. My fortress, where I will never be shaken. So many enemies against one man, all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall, or a tottering fence. They plan to topple me for my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Let all that I am wait quietly before God. For my hope is in him.

My hope is in him. I have a friend who’s hoping for a child. I have a friend who’s hoping for a husband. I have a hope for someone I love deeply and dearly that’s so close to my heart, can’t even share it here, but it’s a deep hope and God knows it and he hears it, and he knows the deep hope in your heart. Today, you and I are taking a hot second to wait quietly before him. To trust him. Do you ever notice in these. That the peace does come in. The hope does come in when you and I just pause and remember the truth, that he is the God of hope and that he’s faithful. We’re gonna continue. Now. I’m picking it up in verse five again.

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. Not in the thing we want, not in the desire that we want, but in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress, where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge. A rock where no enemy can reach me. Oh my people. Trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for our God is our refuge. For God is our refuge. Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales together, they are lighter than a breath of air. Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times. Power, oh God belongs to you. Unfailing love, oh Lord is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

Every night before I go to bed, I put my rings in a little dish on my dresser, and I know that they’re safe there. I know that come morning I’m gonna find them. I’m gonna pick my earrings and put my rings on. When you put your hope, your hopes in the Lord, they are safe in the dish of his faithfulness. He is your rock. He is your refuge. That means you can stand on him. He’s the rock of ages. He’s your refuge. You can hide in him. The Bible says in Psalm 91 that he will cover you with his feathers. That under his wings you will find refuge. It says in Deuteronomy chapter 33, the eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. They are holding you today. They are holding your hopes. He knows. He knows about that deep desire in your heart, whether it’s for you or for somebody else. Mine is actually for somebody else who I love so much. He knows. He loves you. You are so loved. Hold on to that today. He is the God of hope, and you and I are loved. Till next time, thank you for being here. I so appreciate your company.
