It’s been so refreshing, hasn’t it? Kind of like ice coffee on a hot day, to hear about how kind our God is. How loving he is toward you and I. He pours kindness and love on us Niagara Falls style. If you’re anything like me, sometimes when you’re called to be kind to somebody in a situation that you don’t feel like being kind in, you kind of want to release it like a trickle, just give a little bit of kindness. But you know what? It’s possible to give kindness like God does; Niagara Falls style. Kind people are my kind of people, and I want to be one too. Well, without further ado, let’s dive into the beautiful crystal lake of Psalm 145.

It’s Friday on the Bible for Busy People and you know what that means? It’s time for Joy Bombs in the Psalms, the Kindness Edition. I’m Erica, and I’m so glad you’re here. It’s been so refreshing, hasn’t it? Kind of like ice coffee on a hot day, to hear about how kind our God is, how loving he is toward you and I. He pours kindness and love on us Niagara Falls style. And I know if you’re anything like me, sometimes when you’re called to be kind to somebody in a situation that you don’t feel like being kind in, you kind of want to release it like a trickle, just give a little bit of kindness. But if you’re like me, you’re beginning to see, oh, it’s possible to give kindness like God does; Niagara Falls style. Lord Jesus, help us to be like you. That is our goal. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Kind people are my kind of people, and I want to be one too. Well, without further ado, let’s dive into the beautiful crystal lake of Psalm 145. King David wrote this one.
1I will exalt you, my God and King,
and praise your name forever and ever.
2 I will praise you every day;
yes, I will praise you forever.
3 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure his greatness.4 Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts;
let them proclaim your power.
5 I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
and your wonderful miracles.
6 Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue;
I will proclaim your greatness.
7 Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness;
they will sing with joy about your righteousness.8 The Lord is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
Oh Lord, help me help my friend who’s listening to be slow, to get angry, to be merciful and compassionate. And please Lord, fill us with your unfailing love.
9 The Lord is good to everyone.
He showers compassion on all his creation.
You ever hear that song from James Taylor, shower, the people you love with love? Oh, I want to amend it. It’s such a great song. Shower all of the people with love is how I want to sing it, how I want to live it. Don’t just shower the people you love with love shower everybody in your circle. Everybody you meet with God’s love and kindness. Verse 10, now,
10 All of your works will thank you, Lord,
and your faithful followers will praise you.
11 They will speak of the glory of your kingdom;
they will give examples of your power.
12 They will tell about your mighty deeds
and about the majesty and glory of your reign.
13 For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
You rule throughout all generations.
The Lord always keeps his promises;
he is gracious in all he does.
Wow, don’t you want to be gracious in all you do. Oh, help us Lord.
14 The Lord helps the fallen
and lifts those bent beneath their loads.
Oh, that’s an image I want to keep in my mind. How about you?
15 The eyes of all look to you in hope;
you give them their food as they need it.
16 When you open your hand,
you satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in everything he does;
Wait for it…
he is filled with kindness.
Wow. Isn’t that wonderful? Our Lord is filled with kindness. This is good news for you and I. Verse 18, now.
18 The Lord is close to all who call on him,
yes, to all who call on him in truth.
19 He grants the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cries for help and rescues them.
20 The Lord protects all those who love him,
but he destroys the wicked.21 I will praise the Lord,
and may everyone on earth bless his holy name
forever and ever.
And all God’s kids said, amen. I, my big takeaway today is that one verse, verse 17,
Our Lord is filled with kindness.
Oh man, marinate on that. Take that into your day. I want to be like that. I want to be so filled with kindness that if somebody bumps into me and offends me or hurts me or does something against me, I respond with kindness. I’m filled with it. Think about a donut that is filled with raspberry filling. When you squeeze it, the raspberry filling comes out. When I get squeezed by life, I want kindness to come out. That’s my prayer. Is it your prayer too? Oh, it’s been a good week studying the Bible with you. I want to make sure you know I’m going to be taking the next few weeks off. I’m going to be going on a family vacation for the first time in years. Putting my toes in some warm sand on a beach in North Carolina. But some amazing people are going to be filling in on the Bible for Busy People, including both my kids. My daughter is working on a series about trusting the Lord as you wait for him to unfold his plans for your life. And my son is working on a series called Victory in Christ, and he’s going to be talking about some of the heroes in the Bible who were victorious, and how you and I can be too. So, I look forward to meeting up again with you in early July when once again, you and I will dive into God’s word and come up refreshed. But in the meantime, God bless you, and remember, you are loved.
