You and I have been living out Psalm 46, verse 10, Be still and know that I am God. We are safe, we are protected. The God of angel armies is watching over us, and looking after us. Beautiful things happen when you and I choose to be still and know. Let’s finish our week today, soaking in the goodness and truth of Christ our Savior.

This week on the Bible for Busy People, you and I have been living out Psalm 46, verse 10, and we’ll get to that in moments. But first, I’m Erica, and you know it’s Friday, so it is time for Joy Bombs in the Psalms. We’re going to be hanging out today in Psalm 46, and this is so interesting. I just learned something today. This Psalm was written for the choir director. The Bible says, a song of the descendants of Korah to be sung by soprano voices. Now, I’ve seen the name Korah a bunch of times throughout the Psalms, and I’ve always wondered who was Korah? Well, I just found out today that Korah was a Levite who led a rebellion with a couple of hundred, maybe 250 others, against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And let’s just say his story didn’t end well because honestly, he wasn’t leading a rebellion, so much against Moses and Aaron, as he was against God who appointed Moses and his brother Aaron as leaders. And the Bible talks about how the earth just swallowed up Korah and all the rebels who chose to stand against the Lord. But here’s where his mercy comes in. Here’s what we can celebrate today. The sons of Korah actually wrote 11 Psalms in the Bible. So, we have to believe that there must have been a bunch of adult kids that Korah had who chose to stand on the side of the Lord, even going against their own father. They chose the Lord and that’s beautiful. So, just something to consider as we read the words of Korah’s sons today. Are you ready? Psalm 46 now, beginning in verse one.
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
We could just camp there, right? I mean, pitch a tent for just a second. He is always ready to help you When things go crazy, when your heart breaks, whatever it is you need a friend, God is always there to help you. One of the names of the Holy Spirit is helper, verse two.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. 3 Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! 4 A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. 5 God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. 6 The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts!
Verse seven is one that I just cherish.
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
Isn’t that beautiful to consider the Lord of heaven’s? Armies is here among us, right among us right now, as you and I open God’s Word together and study it. The Bible says, and I’ll put the verse in the show notes;
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” [Reference: Isaiah 40:8]
What you and I are doing right now is eternal. These seven minutes that you’ve set aside for God today, they last forever. His word is forever. You’re investing in the eternal right now. Verse eight,
Come, see the glorious works of the Lord: See how he brings destruction upon the world. 9 He causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
Now, here comes verse 10. Remember at the beginning of this episode I told you, you and I have been living out verse 10 all this week as we have looked at stories in the Bible that really are all neon signs saying God is real. Okay? So here’s verse 10.
Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know that I am God.
Every day this week, you and I have sat down or stood and considered and reflected and thought about how God is real. We’ve taken a moment, we’ve pressed pause on our busy lives and we’ve said, God, we are stopping to remember and we’re reflecting on your goodness and your greatness and your reality. He is real, and he was real in the stories we read, and he’s real in the stories that are unfolding in our lives right now.
I will be honored by every nation.

I will be honored throughout the world.” 11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.
There’s that word again, our fortress. We are safe, we are protected. The God of angel armies is watching over us, and looking after us. Beautiful things happen when you and I choose to be still and know. I love this blueberry farm that’s about 20 minutes away from my house. And I love going there to pick blueberries. And I just learned from their Instagram that they’re having to close the down because the blueberry bushes need a little rest between weekends. And I thought about that. If blueberry bushes need rest, they need to be still so that they can be more fruitful… How much more do you and I need to be still in the presence of our savior in order to know that he is God, that he is good, that he’s working it all out, that he’s our fortress, that he is among us? The Lord of heaven’s armies is here among us right now. I don’t care if you’re sitting in the middle of a pile of laundry or you’re in your cube on your lunch break or you’re in the camp carpool line. It doesn’t matter where you are right now. The Lord of heaven’s armies is among us right now. You’ve chosen the better thing. Remember the story of Mary and Martha in the Bible? Martha was busy and worried about stuff like meals when she was in the presence of our savior who could feed 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish. But Mary chose what was better. She just wanted to sit at Jesus’s feet. So thank you for once again choosing to sit with me at our Savior’s feet.
