The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace. Psalm 29:11
It’s Friday, which means it is time for Joy Bombs in the Psalms! Are you ready to dive into Psalm 29 with me today? After I got out of bed and got ready, I just wasn’t feeling all that great. I wanted to go back to bed, but I opened my Bible and I read a few verses that gave me the energy I needed to keep going, and maybe that’s where you are today. So, come on, join me. Ready?

Getting out of bed in the winter is really hard when you’re nice and warm and toasty under all of the blankets, and then the alarm goes off, right? You know what can be harder, but you’re doing it anyway? Getting in the Word of God. Look at you. Welcome to the Bible for Busy People. I’m Erica, your host, and today is my favorite day. It’s Friday, which means it is time for Joy Bombs in the Psalms. Are you ready to actually instead of dive in today, soak in the hot tub of Psalm 29? It’s wonderful. I needed it this morning. After I got out of bed and got ready. I just wasn’t feeling all that great. Wanted to go back to bed, but I opened my Bible and I read a few verses in Psalm 29 that gave me the energy I needed to keep going, to turn on the car and drive to work. And maybe that’s where you are today. So, come on, join me. Ready? Let’s sink in to Psalm 29.
Honor the Lord, you heavenly beings; honor the Lord for his glory and strength. 2 Honor the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. 3 The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. 5 The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars; the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.
I want to pitch a small tent here because are you hearing the strength and the power that you and I can tap into? That you and I have access to? This is our father King David is writing about in the Psalms. He’s got the power. He’s got the strength that you and I need today. And remember earlier this week, I’m sure it was this week, we were talking about how the prophet Ezekiel described the voice of God. He said it was like the roar of rushing waters. Oh, that just delights me. I don’t know about you. One day you and I are going to hear that voice, the voice that Ezekiel described calling our names. Oh, I can’t wait for that day. It actually reminds me of that beautiful hymn, one fine day. And you know I’ve told you before, I can’t sing, so I will read you the lyrics.
He’s coming back and I can’t wait. I want to see Jesus face to face. I believe it. I believe it. One fine day, He’s going to come shining through the clouds going to come. Shout my name out loud. I believe it. Believe it. One fine day. He’s coming back for me.
Woo. He is coming back and I’m so thankful for that. Alright, we’re going to pick up Psalm 29 now in verse six.
He makes Lebanon’s mountains skip like a calf; he makes Mount Hermon leap like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning. 8 The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks[c] and strips the forests bare. In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!” 10 The Lord rules over the floodwaters. The Lord reigns as king forever. 11 The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
And it was that last verse, verse 11, that I needed so much this morning as I sat there at our kitchen table with the lamp shining the word of God open and I was so tired and not feeling well. I needed those words, and maybe you need them right now to shall we read ’em again together.
The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.
Listen, you can open your hands right now if you’re in a place where it’s okay to do that, just put out your hands, palms open and say, Lord, I receive your strength and your peace right now. In Jesus’ name, amen. He has all the strength and power and peace and energy you need. Whatever you need to make it through today and tomorrow too. That’s our God. Until next time, you are so loved.
